My love for Italo / NRG / New Generation grew out of listening to and collecting 70s disco.
Seeing the first 12" maxi singles and the DJs beat-mixing them was life changing as far as my muscical taste is concerned....I had been collecting vinyl records from just about the time I could walk! My Dad loved music, and I credit or blame him for my vinyl and music obsession!
In the USA, Disco was declared dead in the late 70s, but I was not taking "no" for an answer!
Fortunately as most discos closed or changed format here, gay clubs were still fourishing. It was there that I discovered that Italo / Eurodisco were alive and well and being imported to fill the gap in great music. These genres brought the enjoyment to a whole new level for me.
My collection of vinyl is now WAY out of control! I prefer vinyl, but will settle for a CD or mp3 if that is all that is available.
As a C80s admin, one of my focuses will be to draw attention to the great releases still coming out on physical format. There are still so many fantastic tracks being released and re-released. Let's support these artist as best we can, as they release in any form to suit our taste.
